How it’s calculated
Volume is length times width times depth (inches divided by 12), in cubic feet. Divide by 27 for cubic yards.
Tons are cubic yards times the gravel’s weight per yard. Most gravel and crushed stone weighs 1.3 to 1.5 tons per cubic yard; 1.4 is a fair default. Suppliers can tell you the exact figure for theirs.
Paths usually need 2 to 3 inches; driveways 4 to 6 inches over a compacted base.
