How it’s calculated
Volume is length times width times depth, with depth converted from inches to feet (divided by 12). Divide cubic feet by 27 for cubic yards.
Bags are rounded up to whole bags. Most bagged mulch is 2 cu ft; some is 1.5 or 3.
2 to 3 inches suits most beds; up to 4 inches suppresses weeds better. Keep mulch a few inches back from tree trunks and stems.
